8 April - Spinning with Wool
Carding wool, making sliver, spinning, twining, and yarn sampling with electrical spinner
10.00 - 11.30
Explore how to make a yarn from wool fibres using emerging yarn prototyping technology Hilo E-Spinner and Sliver Maker.
The Hilo is a open source E-spinning being developed by Studio Hilo. Pollyanna Moss and Bart Keiren have built out the machine to also include a sliver maker, a machine extension that creates a pre-yarn which you can then use for spinning. During the workshop you will learn how to operate the Hilo to make sliver, as well as to spin and twin yarn. You will get to take back your yarn samples, and will share our tips for archiving and keep notes on your tests.
In this workshop you will learn:
how to prepare raw unwashed and washed wool for spinning
what is sliver and how to use the sliver maker
how to operate the Hilo to spin and twine
documentation of of yarn samples
The Electric Carding Machine, Hilo E-Spinner and Sliver Maker are available in the LAB for use. This workshop is for people who would like to grow their skills, learn how to spin, but don’t know how to yet.
If you already have had an introduction or know how to use these machine, or would like to book the machine for a longer period of time, you request to reserve a spot here and we will get back in touch with you!
This workshop is in Dutch and English. The workshop is free for LAB members and DAE students.
