Could you please introduce yourself?
I’m Ivan Delogu from Sardinia, Italy. I recently graduated from Central Saint martins from the Womenswear department.
Having graduated recently, how do you look back on your studies?
I look back on my studies with a sense of fulfillment and pride. I embarked on a final year project that was deeply personal and aligned with my ethos. I think I took a thoughtful and innovative approach to address sustainability challenges in fashion.
My research demonstrates a strong commitment to create something very near and dear to me. I reflect on my studies as a transformative and rewarding experience that allowed me to express my creativity and make a positive contribution to the fashion industry.
Could you please tell us something about your graduation collection/project?
My research delves into the historical and contemporary existence of women in Sardinian society, drawing inspiration from 70’s performance art movement which used everyday objects to dissect ideas around human bodies and relationships. My aim was to showcase the diversity and complexity of women experiences in Sardinia and beyond by presenting different aspects of womanhood with my character based designs.
Which materials, techniques, programmes and/or applications are you mostly interested in?
In general I like to work with many different materials, I like texture and I like to create my own textiles addressing sustainability challenges.
The exhibition you are a part of looks into meaning of regeneration. What does regeneration mean to you and your work?
By repurposing materials, reducing waste, and preserving cultural practices, I am contributing to the regeneration of resources, skills and traditional techniques. On a social level, I think my works resonates with regeneration in terms of cultural heritage, the ancestral knowledge I pass on.
How do you perceive the meaning and importance of community within the fashion field?
In my view, the sense of community in the fashion field is crucial and valuable. Fashion is a collaborative industry involving designers, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. This community fosters connections, collaborations, and knowledge exchange. It provides a platform for networking, support, and mentorship, enabling personal and professional growth.
Additionally, it promotes inclusivity, diversity, and sustainability by addressing industry challenges collectively. The sense of community enhances creativity, innovation, and collective progress in fashion.
How do you view the future of fashion? And your own role therein?
The future of fashion will be driven by sustainability, technology, diversity, and conscious consumerism. It will prioritise eco-friendly materials, ethical practices, and circularity. Technology will revolutionise design and shopping experiences.
Diversity and inclusivity will be central, with a representation of diverse identities. Conscious consumerism will shift towards quality and longevity. I think there will be way more committed to positive change.
My role in the future of fashion I hope it will be one of a conscious designer, who combines sustainability, cultural preservation, and personal narratives to create meaningful pieces. I’d like to contribute to the shift towards a more circular and inclusive fashion industry.
