Open Call 2024
NEW ORDER OF FASHION 2024
The Netherlands-based research and (talent) development platform New Order of Fashion is once again on the lookout for regenerative practitioners!
ABOUT NOOF
New Order of Fashion (NOOF) champions emerging fashion visionaries. Through exhibitions, public activations and paid research residencies for talents, we strive to enrich the discourse around sustainable, circular and regenerative approaches to fashion and textiles — to support exemplary practitioners that are at the forefront of the green transition. The goal is to counterbalance the prevailing industry standards and narratives. We, NOOF, seek to work with and mobilise a new generation who are ready to disrupt the status quo!
NOOF LAB
In 2022, New Order of Fashion opened their own independent exhibition space and fashion & textile LAB in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. We use the LAB as a base for teaching classes on sustainability & circularity to schools and brands - and for our research residencies, where we gather the most forward-thinking fashion and textile graduates from around the globe and align them with likeminded experts and researchers to develop exemplary circular and regenerative practices.
Throughout the year at the LAB we present relatively small-scale exhibitions, and during Dutch Design Week — the biggest design event in Northern Europe — we scale up and show fresh graduates, collaborations with international partners, and the results of our research residency programmes. Our curatorial approach is informed by our ongoing dialogue with the growing group of NOOF talents — we have shown over 190 designers since our first exhibition in 2013 — as well as our network of international design academies. The topics we have addressed throughout the years — such as migration, shape-shifting and truth seeking — always connect to overarching developments within society.
REGENERATION
For this Dutch Design Week— 19-27 October 2024 — we’re building upon the theme of regeneration that we started exploring last year. Regeneration is the process of regenerating—renewing or restoring something after it has been depleted, damaged or even completely lost.
To successfully determine its meaning and potential for the textile and fashion profession, we are looking for graduates who reflect upon the theme or have developed (and implemented) regenerative design methodologies as part of their work. We aim to platform a plurality of views and voices to collectively reflect on this topic. In addition to an environmental- or material-based approach, we welcome projects with a sociocultural and technological focus.
Relevant aspects of regeneration NOOF is curious about: anthropology, biodiversity, community, care, decolonisation,(de-)extinction, ecologies, ecosystem protection, ethical material production and harvesting, holism, health, human non-human/more than human relations, indigenous/ancestral knowledge, locality, meaningful livelihoods, and systemic approaches.
