Regeneration: From the Source
We are at a tipping point. Where sustainability stops at reducing harm, regeneration goes further - it’s about reuse, restoration, and giving back to nature. Regenerative fashion focuses on restoring ecosystems. It envisions a fashion industry that not only causes less harm but actively contributes to a thriving planet.
New Order of Fashion’s Regeneration: From the Source exhibition during Dutch Design Week is more than just a presentation of innovative design projects. It opens the door to a completely different way of looking at the world and our role within it. Regenerative fashion is about rethinking our entire system - how we think about and care for resources, collaborate with nature, and shape our relationships with the world around us. New Order of fashion (NOOF) offers a groundbreaking vision of how fashion and design can contribute to a regenerative, future-proof way of living.
What can the source teach us?
A source is the foundation of our existence. A wellspring from which materials, knowledge, experiences, and even life itself emerge. Whether material or immaterial - a mine, a story, a seed, a memory, a person, or a non-human life form - the source holds profound wisdom if only we are willing to look and listen closely. Today, more than ever, we are recognising that our sources are neither limitless nor inexhaustible. Their future depends on our collaborative action and responsibility. Without it, these vital sources cannot be sustained.
Advancing regeneration in fashion through design and research
New Order of Fashion brings forth emerging perspectives and innovative methodologies by showcasing the next generation of fashion visionaries. Alongside its yearly curated selection of illustrative designs from talents from leading national and international academies, NOOF highlights the work of students and researchers involved in the North Plus Collaboration. This collaborative initiative, involving Aalto University, the Iceland University of the Arts, and the Estonian Academy of Design, focuses on pioneering research into the potential of seaweed within the framework of a regenerative "blue economy." Seaweed not only provides sustainable material options but also reminds us of the power of natural resources that can be renewed and strengthened if used wisely.
Regeneration in Practice: Experience, Learn, and Create!
The exhibition also offers an interactive program where visitors can experience firsthand what regenerative design means. On Sunday, October 20, the program kicks off with a special TexTalk x NOOF panel discussion, "Regeneration Through the Lens of Seaweed," featuring leading speakers who delve into the potential of this remarkable material. Throughout the week, visitors can get hands-on in workshops like screen printing with seaweed pigments.
Regeneration: From the Source is an invitation to live, think, and create differently. It is an opportunity to discover how fashion can be not just an aesthetic expression but also a means to radically transform our system and our relationship with resources.

Urban Foraging LAB by Anna Holst
Foraging, or gathering, is one way of getting to know your local environment. Join Anna to meet some of these species, and try out some of the planet-respectful craft-based textile techniques she uses to connect with the local environment, the seasons and others.
