Regeneration: Fashion from the Ground Up
An exhibition of rigorously different fashion at New Order of Fashion
We are in desperate need of a radical change. Not tomorrow, but now – or even better: yesterday. That's what fashion platform New Order of Fashion (NOoF) has been doing since 2014: coming up with bright and daring new ways to change the fashion industry. Twelve recently graduated fashion students from the Netherlands and abroad, will illustrate this during the upcoming Dutch Design Week (DDW).
NOoF shows groundbreaking work by up-and-coming, radical designers in their LAB in Eindhoven under the title 'Fashion from the Ground Up'. Such as the work of the Spanish Silvia Acién Parrilla. She exhibits a design made using traditional techniques, learnt from her grandmother and made from organic yarns, hand-dyed with a mix of natural dyes derived from bacteria and invasive plants. Dutch fashion designer Bastiaan Reijnen also shows graduation work: “The goal is to show clothing that deserves to exist forever and is not thrown away after a few wears”.
This has everything to do with Regeneration, NOoF’s theme for this DDW edition. Regeneration is the process of renewing and repairing after something has been depleted, damaged or lost. Exactly this is what NOoF is fully committed to: finding bold ways to restore and replenish ecosystems. With this in mind, the twelve newly graduated designers were selected: The courage with which they want to radically reverse the underlying system of the fashion industry.
How to do so, will also be discussed during the opening event (invitation only) on October 21. At 6:30 PM there will be a sound performance by Paloma Lázaro Arteaga followed by, from 7:15 PM, a panel discussion with the telling title 'What the f**k is regeneration?’. Participants are the British design and research agency FranklinTill: “It's time to turn the cycle from take–make–waste to make–waste–make”, the Dutch Fibershed foundation: “Natural has to become the new normal” and exhibitor Silvia Acién Parrilla: “Guided by the wisdom of my grandmother, I honor my heritage through traditional techniques she taught me and local resources associated with my village.”
During the DDW (October 21-29), visitors can attend demonstrations and lectures at the NOoF LAB. Such as the one by Pollyanna Moss, who shows how she has created a sustainable network with the wool of the Kempen sheep. Or Roua Atelier and Sjaak Hullekes who produce dyes from local plants.
