Municipal Art Acquisitions

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam announced the selection of designers and artists participating in the biennial exhibition for Municipal Art Acquisitions. From 750+ entries, a jury selected 24 proposals which will be shown in a group exhibition at the Stedelijk late 2022. Amongst the participants is NOoF 2021 talent Wendy Owusu.

The 2022 edition of the Municipal Art Acquisitions invited both designers and visual artists whose work places particular emphasis on objects, sculptures and other projects that directly or indirectly involve guna-guna, a silent and mystical force that can be productive, protective, deflective or destructive. This phenomenon can manifest itself in many ways: spirits, protective entities, the realm of animals and plants, mythic creatures, natural or occult and inexplicable events.

The exhibition – opening the 29th of October – will show works of the following designers and artists:

Ayo, James Beckett, Yinka Buutfeld, Jae Pil Eun, Eric Giraudet de Boudemange, Laurids Gallée, Antonio Jose Guzman in collaboration with Iva Jankovic, Seán Hannan, Saskia Noor van Imhoff, Iris Kensmil, Sebastian Koudijzer, Marcos Kueh, Aram Lee, Shani Leseman, Sabine Marcelis, Chequita Nahar, Ana Navas, James Noya, Wendy Owusu,  Ginevra Petrozzi, Magali Reus, Sondi, Amy Suo Wu & Elaine W. Ho, Wei Yang

The selection was made by the members of the jury: Aric Chen (director of Het Nieuwe Instituut), Roos Gortzak (director of Vleeshal), Malik Jewiti-R (co-founder Artskop3437), Aude Christel Mgba (freelance curator, sonsbeek 20 24) and curators of the Stedelijk Museum Amanda Pinatih and Britte Sloothaak.

During the exhibition, director Rein Wolfs – in consultation with the Stedelijk curatorial team – will announce which works will become part of the museum’s collection.
