Wat?

New Order of Fashion (NOoF) is een internationaal platform dat de meest innovatieve modetalenten van over de hele wereld verenigt. Middels de presentatie van vernieuwende, radicale perspectieven en het stimuleren van experiment en co-creatie, biedt NOoF antwoorden en oplossingen die concreet bijdragen aan de globale dialoog over een duurzamere mode-industrie!

In het teken van het project From Scratch activeert NOoF ontwerpers, industrie én Eindhovenaren gezamenlijk te bouwen aan een circulair mode systeem waar gedoneerde kleding de grondstof vormt voor een collectie van circulaire fashion items, welke wij “Stadspakken” noemen!

Wie?

NOoF vraagt alle inwoners van Eindhoven kleding te doneren die zij niet langer dragen! Broeken, t-shirts, truien, jassen tot je sokken aan toe! Je bijdrage is een onmisbare bouwsteen voor ons duurzaam mode-systeem!

Waarom?

Wist je dat de mode-industrie, op de fossiele brandstofindustrie na, de meeste vervuilende industrie ter wereld is*? Een groot onderdeel van deze vervuiling betreft de honderden miljoenen kilo’s textiel afval die jaarlijks wereldwijd worden geproduceerd. Door als stadsbewoners de handen ineen te slaan kunnen we op lokaal niveau beginnen hier iets aan te doen!

Hoe?

In samenwerking met ontwerpers, industrie én Eindhovenaren bouwen we aan een circulair systeem voor textielafval. Dit systeem komt tot stand door opeenvolgend de volgende stappen te volgen:

Stap 1: Inzameling Doneer kleding die u niet langer draagt! Voor de inzameling werd NOoF geadviseerd door Textiel Race. 

Stap 2: Onderzoek De gedoneerde kleding wordt in samenwerking met ontwerper Alicia Minnaard onderzocht: Waar is deze gemaakt? Uit welke materialen bestaat het kledingstuk? Hoe kan deze het beste worden gerecycled? 

Stap 3: Vervezeling Textielrecycling bedrijf Wolkat verwerkt de gedoneerde kleding tot vezels waarna er garens van worden gesponnen.

Stap 4: Textielontwerp: De Eindhovense kunstenaar Bart Hess ontwerpt een textiel op basis van de nieuwe garens.

Stap 5: Stadspak: NOoF talenten maken van het nieuwe textiel Stadspakken voor de inwoners van Eindhoven! Deze kun je straks bestellen met 20% korting, omdat je donateur bent van de grondstof.

Wanneer en Waar?

Wij verwelkomen u op 26 en 27 juni van 11.00 – 19.00. De locatief betreft het voormalig VVV pand op het Stationsplein 17. De eerste resultaten van uw donaties en de daaropvolgende stappen worden getoond tijdens de Dutch Design Week, 17 – 25 Oktober in Eindhoven.

Wij vragen u uw kleding voorafgaand aan de donatie te wassen en af te leveren in een afgesloten zak.

*Enkele feiten op een rij:

• De meeste kleding uit de fast fashion industrie wordt ontworpen om uit elkaar te vallen. Zodat je sneller weer nieuwe koopt!
• Een persoon gooit per jaar 34 gemiddeld kg textiel weg.
• 85 miljoen bomen worden er gemiddeld per jaar gekapt om stoffen voor onze kleding te maken!
• Gemiddeld kost een spijkerbroek 8.000 liter water om te maken en een katoenen t-shirt 2.700!
• Wetenschappers schatten dat 20% van de wereldwijde zoetwater vervuiling wordt veroorzaakt door de behandeling en het verven van textiel.
• Katoen is het meest waterverslindende gewas ter wereld. Het tekent voor 2,5 procent van het wereldwijde watergebruik. Daarnaast wordt meer dan 25% van de pesticiden ter wereld gebruikt op katoen.
• Er is veel ongelijkheid en intimidatie in de kledingindustrie. Voornamelijk naar vrouwen toe.
• De wereldwijde consumptie van kleding heeft zich meer dan verdubbeld van 74.3 miljard items (kleding en schoenen) in 2005 naar 130.6 miljard items in 2019.*
• De meerderheid van de kleding die we weggooien komt terecht op een vuilstortplaats of verbrandingsoven. Minder dan 1% van textiel en kleding wordt daadwerkelijk gerecycled tot nieuw textiel en kleding.*
• De hoeveelheid textiel afval is tussen 1960 en 2015 gestegen met 811%. De overgrote meerderheid hiervan beland op vuilstortplaatsen.*
• De mode- en textielindustrie leunt nog steeds in grote mate op moderne slavernij en werknemers die noodgedwongen onder de armoedegrens leven.
In Bangladesh is het wettelijke minimumloon voor arbeiders in de mode- en textielindustrie € 16,- per maand, terwijl het leefbaar loon voor een alleenstaande op € 72,- per maand ligt en € 142,- als iemand een familie moet ondersteunen.*

We kunnen dit natuurlijk niet oplossen, maar we kunnen wel bewuster omgaan met onze kleding consumptie. Door je kleding in te leveren houden we de keten klein en maken we nieuwe fashion items zonder hier weer nieuwe materialen aan toe te voegen!

What?

New Order of Fashion (NOoF) is an international platform uniting the most innovative fashion talents from across the globe. Through the presentation of inventive, radical perspectives and stimulating experimentation and co-creation, NOoF offers answers and solutions that contribute to the global dialogue about a more sustainable fashion industry!

Marking the kick-off of the From Scratch project, NOoF activates designers, industry ánd the people of Eindhoven to collectively start building on a circular fashion system in which donated items of clothing function as the raw materials for a collection of circular fashion items we call “Stadspakken” (City Suits).

Who?

NOoF asks the inhabitants of Eindhoven to donate clothing items they no longer wear. Trousers, t-shirts, sweaters, coats even your socks are welcome! Your contribution is a indispensable building block for our sustainable fashion system!

Why?

Did you know that the fashion-industry, after the fossil fuel industry, is the most polluting industry in the world*? A large part of its pollution concerns the hundreds of millions of kilos of textile waste that are produced worldwide every year. By joining forces we can start to do something about this on a local level!

How?

In collaboration with designers, industry ánd the people of Eindhoven we will build a circular system for textile waste. This system is established through the following steps:

Step 1: Collecting: Donate the clothes you no longer wear! For the collection NOoF was advised by Textiel Race.

Step 2: Research The donated clothing items are the starting point of a research process in collaboration with designer Alicia Minnaard: Where have the items been produced? What materials are they made of? What is the best way and purpose to recycle them?

Step 3: Fiberization Textile recycler Wolkat processes the donated clothing items into fibers, after which yarns are spun out of the them.

Step 4: Textile design Eindhoven-based designer Bart Hess designs a textile made of the Wolkat produced yarns.

Step 5: Stadspak (City Suit) A selection of NOoF talents will use this textile to produce a series of circular City Suits for the people of Eindhoven. Contributors who donated clothing items will receive a 20% discount when the suits are ready to order!

When and where?

We welcome you on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of June from 11.00 – 19.00. We are located at the former VVV building at the Stationsplein 17 in Eindhoven. The first results of your donations and the

subsequent steps will be showcased during the Dutch Design Week, 17 – 25 October in Eindhoven.

We kindly ask that you wash your clothes prior to the donation and deliver them in a sealed bag.

*Facts at a glance:

• Most items from the fashion industry are designed to fall apart, just to make sure you buy new items even faster!
• On average, one person throws away 34 kilograms of textile per year.
• On average, 85 million trees are cut down per year to produce textiles for our clothing!
• In order to produce 1 pair of jeans you need an average of 8.000 liters of water, 2.700 liters of water to produce a t-shirt!
• Academics estimate that 20% of all freshwater pollution comes from textile treatment and dyeing.*
• Cotton is the most water consuming crop in the world. It claims 2,5 per cent of the global water use. In addition to this more than 25% of the world’s pesticides are used in the production of cotton.
•  Inequality and intimidation in still a big part of the the clothing industry. Mainly towards women.
• Global clothing consumption has more than doubled from 74.3 billion items of clothing and footwear in 2005 to 130.6 billion items in 2019.*
• The majority of the clothes we discard either end up in landfill or incineration. Less than 1% of textiles and clothes are genuinely recycled into new textiles and clothes.*
• The amount of textile waste increased 811% between 1960 and 2015, and the vast majority of this waste has ended up in the dump.*
• The fashion and textile industry still relies heavily on modern slavery and workers who are forced to live below the poverty line.
In Bangladesh the legal minimum wage is €16 per month, while the actual living wage for a single person is €72 per month and €142 per month if someone has a family to support.*

We can’t solve these problems all at once, what we can do is become more aware of our personal clothing consumption! By donating your clothes we keep the cycle small and you help us to create new fashion items without adding new materials to the cycle!
