Vlisco X Sander Bos Fellowship

The Modebelofte/New Order of Fashion Fellowship initiative creates unique opportunities for the industry to involve bright young fashion design talents in their innovation projects.
Year after year Modebelofte/ New Order of Fashion scouts the most original and unabashed graduates from the world’s finest Art & Design universities to give them a platform. Our database is full of these ‘diamonds in the rough’, with their fresh and visionary ideas and mind-blowing creativity, ready to be tapped.

For the first ever Fellowship with Vlisco, Modebelofte/ New Order of Fashion selected fashion pioneer Sander Bos.

About Vlisco

Vlisco has been designing and manufacturing distinctive fabrics loved by African women since 1846. The specially crafted fabrics – Wax Hollandais, Super-Wax and Java – continue to be made with time-honoured methods and materials in Helmond, the Netherlands.

For over 170 years, Vlisco has created more than 350,000 original textile designs. Many of these designs have become cultural treasures, bestowed with special names and meanings by the merchants of Central and West Africa.

New designs are produced each year alongside traditional classics to hearten the new generation of Vlisco enthusiasts. Vlisco’s highly expressive and creative customers transform the fabrics into fashionable looks, which are one of a kind.

Inspired by Africa, made with a technique derived from Indonesian Batik, designed in the Netherlands, Vlisco’s heritage and design signature is a multicultural melting pot of beauty and industrial craftsmanship.

About Sander Bos

Sander Bos graduated from the Master’s department of the Royal academie of fine arts Antwerp. His label focuses on contemporary thinking and innovative design. While facing the future, it explores the mix between streetwear and couture, with a “unapologetic” attitude.

In 2017 Vlisco and Modebelofte granted  the designer the Vlisco fellowship. The fellowship was the first of its kind.

Bos got to develop an experimental capsule collection starting with one of Vlisco’s all-time design classics ‘Day and Night’. In collaboration with Wearable Senses at TU/e and with printed electronics specialist Metafas light effects are added to the classic wax print. The ‘Day and Night’ concept is transformed into a modern capsule collection that perfectly fits the Modebelofte theme for 2017: ‘Digital Realists’.
