Benedetta Marcucci

In Kierkegaard’s book Either/Or, man has to choose between two different ways of life, either aesthetics or ethic, and yet their most important common trait is the constant search for beauty. With her collection ‘Embrace me twice’ Benedetta Marcucci proves the impossibility of this choice, as they naturally coexist, in every man, and hence in society. She created a collection of iconic garments made out of innovative fabrics, all self-made from recycled and natural materials such as gingko leaves, naturally dyed and digitally printed tea bags, Kraft paper and tissue paper, and further enriched with textile manipulations and prints developed from her analogue pictures of Florence. A refined colour palette reflects the poetry behind her inspiration and the message behind the collection. We can find beauty in what we nowadays consider waste, and by giving it new life through handcrafted processes, she proves ethics and aesthetics can complement one another.
