Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis’ graduation project uses fashion design and profound material innovation through the meticulous fabrication of extraordinary textiles and garments from post-consumer waste fabrics and selvage, as well as newspapers, to express powerful personal narratives that deal with shame and loss. Andrew’s work demonstrates the ability for profound design to transcend stereotypical notions of materialism. His project conveys a deep care for the integrity of materials and the powerful meanings that can be unlocked through their construction.

For his collection, Andrew did not purchase a single new material, but instead collaborated with a local New York factory to seek out leftovers, along with upcycling odd and cheap materials such as tea stirrers and newspapers. “A lot of thought was given to what these materials could do, which is a big part of what sustainability means to me.”
